Der botanische Name der Gattung Matucana wurde abgeleitet von der peruanischen Stadt Matucana,
\ndie am Westhang der Anden-Kordilleren liegt und in deren N\u00e4he die ersten Pflanzen gefunden wurden.
\nBritton und Rose stellten 1922 diese nur in Peru vorkommende Gattung auf.<\/span>

Die Bl\u00fcte erscheint im August und ist trichterf\u00f6rmigen, und nur wenig zygomorph geformt wie es sonst bei den meisten Matucanas der Fall ist.
\nAn den Bl\u00fctenr\u00f6hren befinden sich Dornen oder Haare. Der Samen ist m\u00fctzenf\u00f6rmig.<\/span><\/p>\n

Die Fr\u00fcchte bleiben nach der Reife, trotz des seitlichen Aufrei\u00dfens und dem Herausfallen der Samen, noch lange an der Pflanze erhalten.
